I have already recommended your resort to the flight attendant on our flight back to the US; she was looking for a quiet remote place to stay and I told her that your resort was perfect for that! Looking forward to our next trip, A. Henderson Baltimore, Maryland The Stay was wonderful. McEvoy, We would like to say thank you for such a wonderful time . The Resort is beautiful, you all are beautiful Its better than staying at Our Lucaya . We loved every moment of it . Keep up the good work and we will recommend our friends, families and enemies to come and experience such a real Vacation with you right here on Grand Bahama. We Love ya. V. and G. Wolfe I am writing this letter in order to share a very lovely experience I had in the Bahamas, for anyone planning to vacation there. In late July [2003], my family and I sent 7 days 6 nights at Ocean Pearl Resort in High rock. Yes High Rock.... not the usual Bahamian destination spot like Nassau, Freeport, or Port Lucaya. It was, as the name implies a hidden gem. If you like crowds of noisy tourists, crowded beaches, homogeneously sterile accommodations, and uncomfortably insincere hosts, stay away from Ocean Pearl! BUT, if you fancy solitude, secluded beaches, feeling like a " native " instead of a tourist, and a personable and helpful hostess, make a "beeline" for the Ocean Pearl in High Rock. You'll be 30 minutes from the congestion of the city, and only so steps from your own secluded stretch ( could be for miles) of beautiful beach and ocean. There you can snorkel, swim, sunbathe, kayak, etc., or stroll the grounds collecting cocoplums ( interesting native fruit that grows in abundance on the Island). There's even and inexpensive, family restaurant/ bar right next door that caters to mostly locals. And you'll be only 10 minutes away from Lucayan National Park, which claims the most beautiful beach on the entire island. Most tourists come there from the cities by privately rented buses. A word about the Ocean Pearl Resort. Although the word "resort" conjures up images of the Marriott, or Westin, or the new mega-resort complex, the Our Lucaya Resort, Ocean Pearl felt more like an inn than a resort. The rooms were impeccably clean and modern, but instead of hundreds of units, there were maybe 10 [Webmaster' note: Yes there are exactly 10 rooms]. The phrase "rustic charm" comes to mind. While staying there, I felt more like part of the community than an outsider. This lends itself, at least for me and my wife, to a far more enriching experience when traveling. And finally a word about our hostess Doris Kemp Knowles. She's a virtual "one woman band". She provided transportation to/from the airport, serve as tour guide, helped with planning activities and making calls ( she knows the locals and gets things done much less expensively than through normal tourist channels), helped provide rental car, cleaned our rooms, and even braided my wife's hair on the only rainy day of our vacation. She makes the place "tick" and she does it with a sincerity and fervor that's rare anymore, even in the travel industry. So, if you like being far from the maddening crowd ( if you consider 30 minutes far), and you want to be treated like a person, not a room number, and you like to really experience the flavor of an exotic destination, then I highly recommend Doris' Ocean Pearl Resort. Sincerely, |
